Who we are

A few words about us

About Us

The Kinsale Literary Festival is a weekend devoted to celebrating good writing and providing a feast of entertainment for readers. We aim to showcase a mix of fiction and nonfiction, poetry and prose, and both literary and lighthearted works. Whether you want to hear some of your favourite authors speak or fancy learning a little about the craft yourself, we hope our programme will provide plenty to make your attendance worthwhile.

Walking tours, musical events and maybe even the odd session should help the festivities continue long into the evenings and all with the beauty and famous welcome of Kinsale town as a bonus. Following the success of our inaugural event in 2017, we hope to see you back for Words By Water festival 2018.

The seed for the festival was sown at a local book club, whose members longed to see some favourite authors and create an event that would also welcome other readers.

Luckily their number includes a number of veterans of the much-missed Kinsale Arts Week, who drew on previous experience to put together an ambitious programme of readings, workshops, competitions and more.

The small but devoted group of organisers hope that October's event will provide stimulating moments and memories for all who visit and look forward to meeting fellow readers.
