Contemporary Irish writers Fíona Scarlett and Elaine Feeney in conversation with Mairead Hearne

Elaine Feeney writes poetry, fiction, and non-fiction. Her debut novel As You Were won Dalkey Book Festival’s Emerging Writer Prize, the Kate O’ Brien Award, and the Society of Authors’ Mc Kitterick Prize. Her second novel How to Build a Boat was published in 2023 and has been longlisted for the 2023 Booker Prize. A new collection, All the Good Things You Deserve is forthcoming with Harvill Secker.

 

Fíona Scarlett is from Dublin’s fair city but is now living in Kildare with her husband and two children. Her debut novel Boys Don’t Cry was published by Faber & Faber in April 2021 and was an instant Irish Times bestseller. It was shortlisted for Newcomer of the Year in the Irish Book Awards, and the Kate O’Brien Award. It was also selected as NetGalley UK’s Literary Fiction book of the year. She holds an MLitt in creative writing with distinction from the University of Glasgow, and was awarded a Literature Bursary through the National Arts Council Ireland 2022. She is currently working on her second novel.
