Niall’s newest novel, Time of the Child, was published in 2024 to wide critical acclaim. It centres Dr Jack Troy, who lives with his eldest daughter Ronnie in the small village of Faha in West Clare, and whose responsibilities for the sick and his care for the dying mean he has always been set apart from the town – a visit from the doctor is a sign of bad things already here and maybe worse things to come. But in the advent season of 1962, everything changes when a baby is left in their care. Time of the Child returns the reader to the people and places of Niall’s earlier acclaimed novel, This is Happiness. Previous novels include the Booker-longlisted History of the Rain and the international bestseller, Four Letters of Love, recently adapted for film and set for cinema release in July 2025. Niall lives and writes in Co. Clare
